I began painting when I was processing circumstances out of my control. I explore layers of grief, confusion, chaos and began to notice bravery, peace and a lot of trust woven in. Basically I make a mess and look for the beauty in it. I paint from my home studio in Salt Lake City.

Linocut, Cut Paper
A little bit modern, a little bit mid-century children's book, my work combines bold shapes and bright colors with nostalgic, childlike themes. I work primarily in linocut (large-scale stamp carving) and cut paper collage, and I love the tactile nature of these media. I take inspiration from graphic design and the art of children I know, and I play in the space between simplicity and sophistication.

Linocut
Linocut is a type of relief printmaking. First I design my art and then transfer it to artist linoleum. The linoleum is made of natural fibers and has a texture like stiff leather. I use sharp blades to carve my design into the linoleum, leaving some areas raised and others scooped out. Finally I ink up the linoleum and press a piece of paper over it to create the finished product. It's basically stamp making and printing. I have selected these pieces because they bring whimsy to the ordinary. The green print is the view from my front window. The wildflower field speaks to my love of cosmos and quiet nights. The girl in the rain was inspired by childhood adventures playing with an umbrella and just soaking up the extreme elements. The moth, bee, and mushrooms are a nod to the little hidden moments in nature that we experience when we slow down.

I draw real places by hand with pens, markers, poster paper, and roughly 20–30 hours of my time. Each map starts on paper, gets scanned, stitched together, and turned into an original piece of topographic art! Mostly Utah for now, but check in because I have more on the way.

Multidisciplinary
I currently am exhibiting a curated selection of 35mm film prints taken on estate sale and thrift store cameras. Every shot aims to evoke a feeling of nostalgia and peaceful wonder. My love for film developed when I bought my first cameras at an estate sale, fixed them up, and started shooting pictures whenever I could. My main cameras are an Olympus and a Minolta. I also enjoy experimenting with shooting 120 format with my Kodak Box Brownie and Voigtlander Brilliant. I also create in other mediums such as block printing, oil painting, and customizing Kinco mittens.

Not everything we grieve is a death. We grieve relationships, dreams, identities, lost time, unmet needs, changing bodies, old versions of ourselves, seasons ending, and lives that didn't turn out quite the way we imagined. And sometimes we move so quickly toward acceptance, gratitude, or “moving on” that we never really let ourselves acknowledge: This mattered. Sacred Grief is a women’s circle for making room for what mattered enough to hurt. Not so we can get rid of our grief, but so we can stop asking it to disappear before we're ready. Together we'll use guided reflection, journaling, small-group sharing, embodied practices, and ritual to explore: What deserves to be grieved? What have I been trying to move past too quickly? What mattered? There is no right way to grieve and no expectation that you share the details of what you're carrying. Participation is invitational, and you're welcome to engage at the level that feels right for you. This gathering is part of The Sacred Series: Rage, Grief, Shame & Freedom. Each circle is a complete standalone experience, so you can attend Sacred Grief even if you didn't attend Sacred Rage. Women who attend multiple circles will experience a deeper thread connecting each gathering. No previous circle experience is necessary. All of you is welcome.
